It's vs. Its

This one can be a bit confusing. The words "it's" and "its" are often used incorrectly. There is, however, an easy way to figure out the correct usage of "it's" vs. "its":

It's: This is the contraction of the words, "it is" or "it has". When using "it's", read the sentence back to yourself with the word written out as "it is" or "it has". If the sentence makes sense, you've used the contraction correctly.

Its: This is the possessive form of the pronoun "it". One way to determine if you should use "its" is to replace that word with "his" or "her". If one of those other words could fit, then you've used "its" correctly.

Its': This, by the way, is not a word. Don't use it. Ever.
